Formula 1 have now announced the construction of the Riviera Maya Autodrome

Puerto Aventuras will soon have a world-class racetrack, covering an area of 500 hectares, with a capacity for 130 thousand spectators and suitable for Formula 1 (F1) cars, on a 9-kilometer-long circuit. In addition to having two hotels, a golf course, and a racetrack, it will be integrated into the Mayan Train through a special station.

The Autodromo Riviera Maya, which will have an investment of 3.7 billion dollars, was announced today at a press conference held in the hotel zone of Tulum, by Grupo Constructor Cancún, directed by the architect Mario E. González, in the company of the logistics director, Gonzalo Soto and the construction director, Alejandro Ponce.

The project has the support of the Federal Government, they explained, through Manuel Santiago Quijano, Director of Strategic Management and Institutional Liaison of Fonatur, who is its link with the Mayan train.

The project’s environmental impact statement is already in the process of being approved so that in February of next year they will already lay the first stone. The investment is totally Mexican, they assured, and it will generate 8,000 direct jobs.

“With the technology that we will implement in the project, we will have the best automobile complex in the world, which will not be compared to those in Dubai and Qatar, ” said Mario E. González González, who said that even the track will be modifiable.

This project includes, in addition to this race track, two five-diamond hotels, with 120 rooms each; a convention center; a racetrack; 18-hole golf course, entertainment center; water park; driving academy; shops, restaurants, as well as spa areas, glamping (glamorous camping), cycle path and an ecological reserve.

“The complex is made up of buildings organized by the main avenue so that visitors can enter by pedestrian or transport to the stands, which will be divided into six areas,” explained the architect in charge of the project.

The area will be highlighted by a sculptural tower visible from federal highway 307. The final line of the circuit has not yet been defined, as it is under review for approval by the FIA (International Automobile Federation), as it will follow all its engineering rules, regulations, and technology.

González González revealed that years ago he proposed to buy the rights to the Mexican GP from Federico González Compeán, for $ 20 million; However, the talks did not prosper, because this promoter managed to pay for the project through Banamex.

However, in these negotiations, the promoter learned about the Riviera Maya Autodrome project, which he used to propose it to the head of the Sectur, Miguel Torruco Márques, without success, because they lack the resource.

He also affirmed that Sergio “Checo” Pérez’s partners (a ZetaGas partner and an Applebee’s partner) do not have the liquidity to undertake a project of this magnitude either.

On the other hand, he affirmed, this corporate has 95% of the project landed, which they formally began in 2019, with the obtaining of the sale of these 500 hectares, by the State Government, since they have the support of Governor Carlos Joaquín González.

In addition, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador knows and supports the project.

“The only thing that can stop us is another pandemic,” he said.
